Everything DiSC - An Update To A Classic Assessment

Personality assessments, once dreaded and often feared when seeking a job, are making a surprising comeback in today’s workforce. One of the most popular personality assessments that businesses often use is the DiSC. This assessment goes back to the 400’s B.C., when it was originally developed by Empodocles and used elements of fire, earth, air, and water. Over time, these were tweaked and adjusted to the four core categories that we see today (PeopleKeys.com, 2019). As we turn the corner to the second decade of the 21st century, the DiSC assessment is being updated yet again as it transitions now into the Everything DiSC model.
What Is the Everything DiSC Assessment?

The Everything DiSC model is a personality assessment and “personal development learning experience that measures an individual’s preferences and tendencies based on the DiSC® model. This simple yet powerful model describes four basic styles: D, i, S, and C, and serves as the foundation for the Everything DiSC Application Suite” (Everythingdisc.com, 2019). The application suite consists of four components: an assessment, the profile, classroom experiences, and follow-up tools. Let’s take a brief look at each one of the pieces that make up the suite.

Likely the most integral part of the application suite is the personality assessment. This consists of an 80-question assessment where testers rank themselves for better or worse according to the question at hand. The answers are combined, and sophisticated algorithms provide the end-user with a profile that gives them a groundwork to execute and inspire behavioral changes within oneself and with others. Once the assessment has been completed, the other pieces fit together quite well. For instance, classroom experiences are custom-built for their intended audiences. From there. follow-up tools are provided to participants, so that they can continue to gain insight and maintain positive change long after the profile was completed.

So, one may be thinking about the reasons why someone should have to go through the hassle of all of this in order to find out about themselves, when other personality tests out there are just as effective. Well, we’re glad you asked! Likely the biggest benefit is that this is one of the best assessments that has had proven success and continued use for hundreds of years in some form. Other personality assessments have been around for just a fraction of that time and although they are just as credible, they may not always provide the most optimal results.

Secondly, the Everything DiSC profile assessment is designed for the 21st century. This includes the use of online resources and even an app that one can download to their cell phone or mobile device. Finally, this assessment is designed with business professionals in mind. Regardless of what one’s position is, the Everything DiSC profile can suit any situation. Offshoots of the assessment can include specifics for workplace relationships, leadership roles, and conflict resolutions (Discprofile.com, 2019, & EverythingDisc.com, 2019b).

Differences Between A Traditional DiSC Assessment & An Everything DiSC Assessment

For those that have taken the traditional DiSC assessment in the past, one may wonder how it differs to what is being offered now by Wiley Publishing. There are several key differences which show that the two assessments are also similar. For example, the original DiSC focused primarily on the four quadrants (D, i, S, and C), whereas now, it is the combination of how one scores in each particular area. This shape defines their personality more succinctly than a broader directive towards one of the four (4) categories.

Secondly, and often unseen if it is provided, the assessment is nearly three (3) times longer than the original predecessor. The original DiSC assessment consisted of only 28 questions. Though one can certainly argue that this assessment is quick and easy, it does not dive into as much detail as the Everything DiSC profile provides its users with now. This debunks the fact that a one-size-fits-all approach is the approach to go with. With the expanded assessment questions, users and leadership can gain a deeper understanding as to how one behaves, works, and can better their careers.

The third differences refers to the use of technology. Back when the original DiSC assessment was being created, computers were slowly becoming integrated into the business world. Even recently, most DiSC assessments could be taken by filling out bubbles on a Scantron®-like form. Though this feature is still available for persons that need it, the personality profile can be taken online with any internet-ready device. Well after the fact, users have access to a wealth of information that can help them better themselves professionally and personally. These weren’t available with the previous versions without extensive classroom instruction and time away from their duties.

Conclusion

People change and so do the ways in which we assess them. From the 400’s B.C., up until now and almost 2,500 years later, the DiSC profile has gone through some major changes. The Everything DiSC profile assessment and solution is perfect for any business big or small. With over 7,000,000 participants and 100,000 organizations worldwide, this assessment is trusted, proven, and informative. DiSC assessment is an advantageous approach. An administrator can benefit in several ways from a DiSC profile examination. A manager is the one who stays responsible for the productivity of his team. Performing DiSC assessment on a regular basis builds trust and makes the employees feel more engaged. DiSC assessment is a motivational and team-building tool that comes with better on-boarding and various personal advancements.
